They were the clear victors by a 26-7 margin over Durham School of the Arts last Friday. The Spartans have beaten the Bulldogs the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
Raylah Wyse made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). Wyse was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Those hits marked the first that she got this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Akirah Boldin, who went 3-for-6 with three stolen bases, five runs, and seven RBI. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Natalynn Snipes-Draine was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.
Southern School of Energy and Sustainability always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .612. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, J.F. Webb's good fortune finally ran out last Friday. They fell 12-9 to Louisburg.
Zikerra Reed was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Simone Ovando, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
J.F. Webb's loss dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Southern School of Energy and Sustainability, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Southern School of Energy and Sustainability has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .457. However, it's not like J.F. Webb struggles in that department as they've averaged .513. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
