Pine Forest's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Angelo Jones led the charge by going 10-for-15 to rack up 22 points and eight boards. That's the most points Jones has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordan Tubbs, who went 8-for-11 en route to 17 points and six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Overhills was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 52-51 to E.E. Smith.
Despite the loss, Overhills saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ja'Von Motta went 8-for-13 on his way to 22 points and three steals. Motta is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last four games he's played. Jordan Bryant was another key player, putting up nine points and eight boards.
Even though they lost, Overhills smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 22 consecutive contests.
Pine Forest's victory bumped their record up to 14-10. As for Overhills, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-9.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Pine Forest has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 29 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Overhills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 31.3 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Pine Forest came up short against Overhills in their previous matchup on Tuesday, falling 52-47. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Motta, who went 9-for-18 to rack up 26 points. Now that Pine Forest knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time?
