Laporte is 2-7 against Pine River-Backus since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tigers at 2:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Laporte headed into their last contest having not scored more than two runs for three straight, but Clearbrook-Gonvick let them put that streak behind them. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 16-6 margin over the Bears on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Macey Morris made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). Morris was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mylee Zubke was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Lexandra Price, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Laporte always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .628. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pine River-Backus, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Everything went their way against McGregor on Tuesday as they made off with a 16-1 victory. Considering the Tigers have won three matchups by more than 14 runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Pine River-Backus' win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Laporte, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.
Laporte couldn't quite finish off Pine River-Backus when the teams last played back in May of 2025 and fell 4-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
