The St. Edward Beavers struggled with assists on Thursday (the Central Valley Cougars had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. St. Edward was outmatched by the Cougars on the road and fell 61-34. St. Edward has struggled against the Cougars recently, as their game on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, St. Edward still got an impressive performance from Marcos Paez, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Paez continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dennis Bernal, who scored three points along with five assists and two steals.
Central Valley got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cordel Wagner out in front who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Zaden Wolf was another key contributor, almost dropping a triple-double on nine points, 13 rebounds, and nine assists.
St. Edward has not been sharp recently as the team's lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Central Valley, they pushed their record up to 14-5 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
St. Edward will head out on the road to challenge the Storm at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Central Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wolves at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
