Two dominant players in Isaiah Cruz and Jefriel Bacorro are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Capuchino Mustangs will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Mills Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Mills took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Capuchino, who comes in off a win.
Capuchino posted their biggest win since December 6, 2023 on Friday. They put the hurt on Oceana with a sharp 61-36 victory.
Meanwhile, Mills' recent rough patch got a bit rougher last Saturday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 50-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Burlingame. While losing is never fun, Mills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1001st, while Burlingame is ranked 466th).
Mills' defeat came about despite a quality game from Bacorro, who scored ten points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Gavin Ma, who scored five points along with two steals.
Mills struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Burlingame racked up 11 assists.
Capuchino is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. As for Mills, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season.
Capuchino skirted past Mills 49-46 in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Capuchino since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
