Remie Smith was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She struck out 12 batters over six innings while giving up six earned runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. That stolen base was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Layla Butler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Mercer County came up short against Oldham County on Thursday, falling 11-4. The Titans haven't had much luck with the Colonels recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.
Jaley Bowman was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. KJ Sutton was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one double.
East Jessamine dropped their record down to 14-17 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Mercer County, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Jessamine hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .332. However, it's not like Mercer County struggles in that department as they've averaged .316. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
