They really took it to Hampton Roads Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 108-37 victory on the road. That looming 108-37 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Peninsula Catholic yet this season.
EJ Joyner was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 40 points and 8 assists. That's the first time this season that he posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Gaines, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and six assists.
Peninsula Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Hampton Roads Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Peninsula Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Norfolk Academy at 7:00 p.m. on January 17th. Norfolk Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Peninsula Catholic is ranked 33rd). As for Hampton Roads Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Norfolk Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Norfolk Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Friday.
