The Leo Lions will head out on the road to square off against the Carroll Chargers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leo is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
If Leo beats Carroll with ten runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Everything went the Lions' way against Fort Wayne Concordia Lutheran on Monday as they made off with a 10-0 win. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.
Carley Funk was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Faith Douglas, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
Leo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Carroll had to kick off their season on the road back in March, but they showed no ill effects. They came out on top against South Bend Riley by a score of 8-4.
Taylor Danley spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lauren Kirkpatrick, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one double. What's more, she posted three hits, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Schultz, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
Leo pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Carroll, their record is now 1-0.
Leo couldn't quite get it done against Carroll when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 4-1. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
