The Mathews Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 63-21 defeat at the hands of Pymatuning Valley. Mathews was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-12.
Leading Pymatuning Valley to victory were Jolene Sharpe and Leah DeMoss. Sharpe scored 12 points along with nine steals, while DeMoss scored 13 points along with eight steals. Those nine steals set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Raylyn Ballentine, who scored six points along with five steals.
Mathews has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Pymatuning Valley, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-3.
Mathews will challenge Maplewood at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pymatuning Valley, they will be playing at home against Lordstown at 6:15 p.m. on Monday. Lordstown is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.
