The Redwood Rangers came tearing into Thursday's match with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Mt. Whitney by a score of 49-39. Given Redwood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 329th, while Mt. Whitney is ranked 1009th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Redwood was led to victory by Evan Galley and Cole Gilcrest. Galley scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, while Gilcrest dropped a double-double on 16 points and 16 rebounds. Gilcrest is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Esquivel, who scored six points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Redwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-8 record this season. As for Mt. Whitney, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-20.
Redwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Mt. Whitney also has no future games currently scheduled.
