Greenville has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Gentry Rams at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 54-24, which was the final score in Greenville's tilt against the Indians on Wednesday. Greenville was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-15.
Greenville's defeat came about despite a quality game from Gymanuel Wells, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kolbie Williams, who scored five points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Greenville struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Gentry took a serious blow against the Wolves on Wednesday, falling 70-30. While losing is never fun, Gentry can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Wolves are ranked 17th).
Greenville has not been sharp recently as the team's lost 12 of their last 13 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season. As for Gentry, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-16.
Greenville came up short against the Rams in their previous matchup last Wednesday, falling 55-49. Can Greenville avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
