Needles has gone a perfect 10-0 against White Pine recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Mustangs will challenge the Bobcats at 12:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Needles is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. Everything went their way against Oasis Academy as they made off with a 10-1 win. The victory was nothing new for the Mustangs as they're now sitting on nine straight.
Peyton Jackson was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Emmerson Powell, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Needles was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oasis Academy only posted a batting average of .176.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, White Pine made sure to put some runs up on the board against Yerington on Thursday. The Bobcats never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The victory continues a trend for the Bobcats in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won eight in a row.
Gianna Sedlacek was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other pitching news, Paige Hayward looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Camden Johnson, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Kendra Derbidge, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and three runs.
Needles' record is now 25-6. As for White Pine, their record now sits at 16-13.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Needles has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .491. However, it's not like White Pine struggles in that department as they've averaged .475. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Needles took their win against White Pine when the teams last played on Saturday by a conclusive 12-2 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
