Gregori and Enochs are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Jaguars will be playing at home against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gregori took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Downey a 19-0 shutout. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Kaliyah Mauia was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was NeVaeh Scheper, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Gregori always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .730. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Enochs entered their tilt with Modesto on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Panthers. Surprisingly, this marked the Eagles' third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.
Enochs also got a great performance from Kaylee Ruiz as she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. That's the most strikeouts Ruiz has posted since back in March.
On the hitting side, Camila Ramirez Quintana was incredible, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Soraya Mendoza was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.
Enochs' win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Gregori, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 16-7.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gregori hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .427. However, it's not like Enochs struggles in that department as they've averaged .412. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gregori came up short against Enochs in their previous meeting back in April, falling 10-6. Will the Jaguars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
