The Arvada West Wildcats will face off against the Northfield Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Arvada West is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.7 points per game this season.
Arvada West is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Ralston Valley, who was ranked fourth at the time (Arvada West was ranked 22nd). Arvada West came up short against Ralston Valley on Saturday, falling 67-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Wildcats have suffered against the Mustangs since January 26, 2022.
Despite their loss, Arvada West saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jordan Stremel, who posted nine points and six boards, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Keegen Balistreri, who put up ten points and seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northfield came up short against George Washington on Friday and fell 81-68. The Nighthawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Arvada West will have to contain Judah Michael as he made an impact in Northfield's last game. He had 15 points along with seven boards and four steals. Michael's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daizhon Walker, who scored 12 points.
Even though they lost, Northfield smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.
Northfield's defeat dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Arvada West, their loss dropped their record down to 17-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Arvada West has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 32.3 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Northfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Arvada West beat Northfield 68-57 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Northfield's Justus Michael, who on his way to 21 points and five steals. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for Arvada West to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
