Chaparral extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 13-14-1. They lost 9-1 to the Lake Belton Broncos. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Broncos this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-9 on Tuesday.
As for Lake Belton, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-6-3. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Lake Belton's part, Braxtan Cope made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Cope posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other pitching news, Lake Belton got a great performance from Maverik Maddux as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Maddux has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Travis Moore was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Logan Winkler was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Looking ahead, Chaparral will take on Ellison at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.09 runs per game on average), something the Bobcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Lake Belton, they will challenge University at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
