Mt. Hope is 0-1 against Ponaganset since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mt. Hope Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Ponaganset Chieftains at 6:30 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mt. Hope has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Ponaganset will arrive with three straight victories.
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 34-7, which was the final score in Mt. Hope's tilt against Moses Brown on Friday. Mt. Hope was already down big by the end of the third quarter and they stayed that way after failing to score in the fourth.
Meanwhile, Ponaganset humbled Narragansett with a 49-14 victory. The result was nothing new for Ponaganset, who have now won three contests by 27 points or more so far this season.
Jason Pincince had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per carry, and also picked up 58 receiving yards. Lyric Picard was in the mix as well, providing Ponaganset with two touchdowns.
Mt. Hope's defeat was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.43 points per game. As for Ponaganset, their win on Saturday bumped their record up to 4-2.
Mt. Hope was dealt a bruising 35-6 loss at the hands of Ponaganset in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Mt. Hope, Nicholas Baccala (who rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
