Softball Recap: Dos Palos Wins Going Away Against Avenal

Dos Palos had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Avenal on Friday. The Broncos were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Buccaneers. The Broncos might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by six runs or more this season.

Breann Raney made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. Raney was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, Jayla Bland was excellent, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024. Athena Correa was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.

Dos Palos was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Dos Palos' win bumped their record up to 5-6-1. As for Avenal, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 10-1-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Dos Palos is set to square off against their familiar foe Mendota at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Avenal will challenge rival Coalinga at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Buccaneers 3.6, the Horned Toads 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
