After a string of three wins, the Horseshoe Bend Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Camas County an easy 66-45 victory. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Horseshoe Bend has scored all season.
Horseshoe Bend's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Layth Bromgard, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 18 rebounds. Bromgard scored a full 42.2% of Horseshoe Bend's points, the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaelun Jones, who scored 12 points.
Troy Smith continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Camas County, scoring 21 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The match was Smith's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Emmett Palan, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Horseshoe Bend's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2. As for Camas County, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Horseshoe Bend will stay at home for another game and welcome Notus at 12:00 p.m. on December 20th. Camas County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cascade at 4:00 p.m. on December 16th. Cascade will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Idaho Rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Camas County is ranked third).
