Mayfield led 5A District 3 in scoring this week after putting up 48 points on Onate.
Cody Alfar was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 14 carries, he ran for 155 yards as Alamogordo lost to Gadsden. Akhil Hamilton also contributed to the rushing game with 84 yards on the ground.
The Panthers' Aaron Gomez and Xoaquin Barrios have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Gomez has thrown for 1447 yards this season, while Barrios, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 19 catches for 366 yards. The Knights' Isaiah Fielder leads the league in rushing yards with 747.
A big matchup in 5A District 3 this week will be when Gadsden takes on Las Cruces. As it stands, Roy Gerela's team is in third, while the Bulldawgs are in first.
There should be lots of points scored when the Panthers and Las Cruces face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Gadsden comes in having scored 193 this season, while Jim Miller's team has scored 217. The Panthers scored 14 points last week as they bested the Tigers.
Gadsden made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,616 from 8,422. The improvement came about via a 14-12 victory over Alamogordo last week.
