Moriah is a perfect 6-0 against Lake Placid since January of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Moriah Vikings will look to defend their home court against the Lake Placid Bombers at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Moriah's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
Last Wednesday, Moriah came up short against Beekmantown and fell 74-63. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (56), the Vikings still had to take the loss.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Chase McGinness, who posted 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Cooper Allen, who scored 21 points.
Even though they lost, Moriah smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 11 consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Lake Placid was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 60-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Johnsburg Central.
Moriah will have to contain Seb Cecunjanin as he made an impact in Lake Placid's last game. He went 13-for-25 to rack up 36 points along with seven boards and five steals. That was a full 72% of Lake Placid's points, marking the eighth time in a row Cecunjanin has put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Phoenix Colby, who earned four points and six rebounds.
Lake Placid's defeat dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Moriah, their loss dropped their record down to 14-5.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Moriah has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 40.2 boards per game. However, it's not like Lake Placid struggles in that department as they've been averaging 27.8 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Moriah against Lake Placid when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 79-36 win. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Cecunjanin, who had 26 points. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Moriah still be able to contain Cecunjanin?
