Baseball Recap: Slocomb Has No Trouble Against Excel

Slocomb made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Excel, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Slocomb blew past Excel 9-2 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Red Tops, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Cade Birge and Jaxon Langham made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Birge pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Langham didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Birge has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Birge scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Langham scored a run while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Cade Hodges was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Reeder, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Slocomb has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. This is the second loss in a row for Excel and nudges their season record down to 10-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Slocomb will venture away from home to take on Opp at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Opp will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Slocomb surely won't give up without a fight. As for Excel, they will challenge Sweet Water at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
