The Palmer Ridge Bears will be playing at home against the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Thursday, Palmer Ridge came up short against Air Academy and fell 40-30. While losing is never fun, Palmer Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Air Academy is ranked 12th).
Despite their loss, Palmer Ridge saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Kylie Mayer, who scored 11 points along with two steals, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Sofia Romero, who scored four points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Meanwhile, Cheyenne Mountain's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fifth straight loss. They took a hard 48-29 fall against Discovery Canyon. Cheyenne Mountain was down 41-21 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Palmer Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost 14 of their last 15 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Palmer Ridge against Cheyenne Mountain when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 44-15 victory. Does Palmer Ridge have another victory up their sleeve, or will Cheyenne Mountain turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
