After flying high against Elverado/Zeigler-Royalton last Saturday, the Cairo Pilots came back down to earth. Cairo was outmatched by Harrisburg on the road and fell 66-24. Having soared to a lofty 59 points in the game before, Cairo couldn't push the score so high this time.
Several Pilots players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Aaliyah Wilkerson, who scored eight points. Another player making a difference was Shanti Taylor, who scored six points.
Cairo has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Harrisburg, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 16-6.
Cairo will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Mt. Vernon at 5:30 p.m. on January 15th. Mt. Vernon presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Cairo in Illinois (Mt. Vernon is ranked 40th, while Cairo is ranked 516th). Harrisburg will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Massac County at 6:15 p.m. on January 23rd.
