2A District 1 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Alva extended the longest winning streak in 2A District 1 this week by beating Perry, 59-22. This was the team's fourth consecutive win.
Tonkawa was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. The Buccaneers vanquished Pawnee 16-7 earlier in the week.
Hennessey's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Dylan Hatchel threw for 147 and two touchdowns and Edgar Fierro had 64 yards receiving. On the ground Levi Hill chipped in 162 yards. Steven Lott helped Hennessey's passing attack out by catching three balls for 31 yards.
Tyler Downard made the biggest impact on defense this week as Chisholm fell to the Eagles. The 6-foot-2 senior grabbed one interception.
The Maroons' Kale Hixon and Darreal Williams have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Hixon has thrown for 567 yards this season, while Williams has 12 catches for 295 yards. Hill from Hennessey leads the league in rushing with 586 yards.
A big matchup in 2A District 1 this week will be when Tonkawa takes on Newkirk. Mike Kirtley's team is currently in fourth, while the Tigers are in second.
There should be lots of points scored when Perry and Rick Luetjen's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Craig Hixon's team comes in having scored 153 this season, while the Eagles have scored 130. The Maroons scored 22 points last week as they lost to Alva.
Hennessey took down the Longhorns 46-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Hatchel ran for 17 yards in the win.
