Basketball Recap: Nia Mcwilliams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Fort Bend Kempner over Victoria West

On Tuesday, the Fort Bend Kempner Cougars were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 45-39 to the Victoria West Warriors. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1088th, while the Warriors are ranked 338th).

Fort Bend Kempner lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Nia McWilliams, who posted 13 points. The dominant performance gave McWilliams a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Meghan Lausser, who earned nine points and six rebounds.

Fort Bend Kempner has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-7 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to assists: they averaged an imposing 6.31 assists in those games compared to only 6.31 in the others. As for Victoria West, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 9-4.

Fort Bend Kempner is taking a road trip to challenge Terry at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Terry will roll in looking for their tenth straight victory, something Fort Bend Kempner surely won't give up without a fight. As for Victoria West, they will take on Randle at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
