Basketball Game Preview: Westwood Christian Warriors vs. Southwest Eagles

The Westwood Christian Warriors and the Southwest Eagles will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday without much rest having both just played. Westwood Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Southwest likes a good challenge.

On Monday, everything came up roses for Westwood Christian against Coral Reef as the team secured a 76-45 win. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 22 points or more this season.

Westwood Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Jason Martinez out in front who went 7 for 11 on his way to 19 points and eight boards. The contest was Martinez's third in a row with at least ten points. Tristen Barnes was another key player, going 6 of 10 en route to 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.

Westwood Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, Southwest lost to St. Brendan on the road by a 69-53 margin on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 540th, while the Sabres are ranked 83rd).

Southwest has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season. As for Westwood Christian, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-7.

Westwood Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Southwest in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, sneaking past 62-60. Does Westwood Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Southwest turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
