Basketball Recap: Hartsville Comes Up Short

Hartsville was the 51-45 winner over Marlboro County when they last played one another last Tuesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Hartsville Red Foxes were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 49-48 to the Marlboro County Bulldogs. While the Red Foxes didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 12-8 in the first quarter.

Despite the loss, Hartsville saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jaz Reyes posted 20 points and four steals. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for Reyes. Another player making a difference was Ariel Leatch, who put up eight points.

Leading Marlboro County to victory were Iyanna Boatwright and Serenity Bethea. Boatwright went 7 of 15 on her way to 14 points in addition to six boards and four steals, while Bethea had 12 points. Bethea is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was London Dudley, who posted four points in addition to nine rebounds and three blocks.

Hartsville's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Marlboro County, their win bumped their record up to 3-6.

Hartsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 53-11 victory against Lamar on the 18th. As for Marlboro County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 60-49 loss against Scotland on the 20th.
