Adding to the longest winning streak in AAAAAA Region 2 this week, Lovejoy beat Newton 56-23. The victory was the seventh in a row for the Wildcats.
The Rams fell to Lovejoy 56-23 last week, the largest margin of any game.
Luella's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Donald Hammond threw for 128 and 2 touchdowns and Quad Clemmons had 46 yards receiving. On the ground Trevone Sullivan chipped in 37 yards. Dakota Spratlin helped Luella's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 40 yards.
Hammond put up the best numbers in passing as the Lions beat Morrow. Hammond's favorite target this week was Clemmons, who caught 3 passes for 46 yards.
6-foot-1 quarterback Hammond of Luella is the league leader in passing yards this season with 946. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Davonta Jones. The Newton star has 21 catches for 402 yards.
Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Newton's Jones goes up against Nic Vasilchek's team's Steve Osondu.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Alcovy takes on Rockdale County. As it stands, the Tigers are in second, while the Bulldogs are in third.
The league will see a high scoring game when the Lions and Terrance Banks' team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Luella comes in having scored 201 this season, while the Rams have scored 80. The Lions scored 43 points last week as they defeated the Mustangs.
Alcovy made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,307 from 3,636. The improvement was the result of a 33-6 victory over Druid Hills last week.
