The Calvary Baptist Academy Patriots won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Monday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 70-48 walloping at the hands of Robert C. Byrd.
Calvary Baptist Academy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Matthew DeGroff, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, and Dallas Johnson who scored 21 points. DeGroff is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last seven games he's played.
Robert C. Byrd found their leader in underclassman Logan Boyce, who scored 32 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Boyce has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Rylee Dickerson, who scored eight points along with six assists and three steals.
Calvary Baptist Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Robert C. Byrd, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary Baptist Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Hannan at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Calvary Baptist Academy is facing Hannan at the right time seeing as Hannan is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Robert C. Byrd, they will head out on the road to take on Fairmont Senior at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Robert C. Byrd will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps West Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 49th, while Fairmont Senior is ranked second).
