Basketball Game Preview: Kingstree Blazers vs. Socastee Braves

The Kingstree Blazers will take on the Socastee Braves in a tournament on Thursday. Kingstree is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.9 points per game this season.

Kingstree is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest win since January 30th last Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 40-37 victory over Scott's Branch. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Blazers.

Kingstree's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Naydia Shaw led the charge by dropping a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Shaw is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: she's pulled down at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Kylee Kelty, who posted five points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Socastee's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They had to suffer through a 68-28 loss at the hands of Graves County. While losing is never fun, the Braves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 72nd in South Carolina, while the Eagles are ranked 19th in Kentucky).

Despite the loss, Socastee saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rylee Minehart earned 13 points.

Kingstree's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Socastee, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.

This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Kingstree hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 55.9 points per game. It's a different story for Socastee, though, as they've been averaging only 39.1 points. The only thing between Kingstree and another offensive beatdown is Socastee.
