The West Forsyth Titans waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 70-59 victory over R.J. Reynolds. Given West Forsyth's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 45th, while R.J. Reynolds is ranked 221st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead West Forsyth to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacari Brim, who scored 15 points along with six assists and six rebounds. Brim hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Cameron White, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
R.J. Reynolds' loss came despite strong showings from Antoine Jones Jr. and Evan Truzy. Jones Jr. dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds, while Truzy scored ten points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. That was a full 35.6% of R.J. Reynolds' points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Jamison Johnson was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
West Forsyth has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. As for R.J. Reynolds, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
West Forsyth will look to defend their home court on Saturday against McMichael at 1:30 p.m. McMichael is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. R.J. Reynolds won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Triad Baptist Christian Academy at 3:00 p.m. on January 13th. Triad Baptist Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully R.J. Reynolds likes a good challenge.
