Rome (Ga.) saw its 22-point lead dwindle to eight, but still managed to hang on and upset
East Paulding (Dallas, Ga.) 35-27 on Saturday.
After taking the lead on a
Josh Perkins touchdown run in the first quarter, the Wolves led 14-6 at the half.
Rome grew its lead to 22 points entering the fourth quarter. RHS scored three times in the third, including once on a Perkins touchdown pass to
Devantea Mallet.
The loss snapped East Paulding's five-game winning streak.
The Raiders came in surrendering 10.5 points per game this season. East Paulding had a hard time against Rome's offense, who entered the game scoring 7.3 points per game.
The victory is a complete turnaround from last season's game between these two teams, which EP took, 52-6.
The win was a nice bounce back for Rome, which lost to North Paulding last week, 63-31. The defeat comes as a step back for East Paulding, which notched a 31-19 victory over Hiram in its previous outing.
Rome (4-3) goes up against Lithia Springs in a AAAAA Region 5 game matchup next week, while East Paulding (5-2) locks horns with South Paulding also in a AAAAA Region 5 game.
