The Lakewood Ranch Mustangs and the Venice Indians squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Lakewood Ranch Mustangs had to settle for second. Lakewood Ranch was dealt a 53-6 defeat at the hands of Venice. Lakewood Ranch has struggled against Venice recently, as their contest on Friday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Alvin Johnson iii was the offensive standout of the matchup as he rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Dorien Irving-jones was in the mix too, providing Venice with two touchdowns.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Venice's defense and their four sacks. Ryan Daly was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Lakewood Ranch's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Venice, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-2.
Lakewood Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Venice has the luxury of staying home another week and will welcome Immokalee at 7:30 p.m. on November 17th. Immokalee will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 213th, while Venice is ranked 14th).
