The Big Spring Bulldogs will square off against the Delone Catholic Squires at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Big Spring knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Delone Catholic likes a good challenge.
While Big Spring didn't have the best season last year (they finished 2-6), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 13-8 victory over Northern York on Thursday.
Zoey Zimmerman made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Hannah Darhower was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Victoria Rinaldi, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Big Spring kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, while it was Delone Catholic who put the first runs on the board on Wednesday, it was Biglerville who put up more. The Squires took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canners. The loss continues a trend for the Squires in their meetings with the Canners: they've now lost five in a row.
Teagan Funkhouser made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored four runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Caylee Zortman, who scored a run while going 3-for-3.

Delone Catholic's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Big Spring has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Delone Catholic, though, as they've been averaging only 3.1 strikeouts. Will Big Spring keep running through batters, or will the Squires buck the trend?
