Rector took care of business in their home opener. They won a matchup that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Corning 15-14. Having pegged this as anyone's game, the MaxPreps state rankings were right on the nose.
Meanwhile, their game two weeks ago wasn't at all kind to Piggott, but their most recent match may have softened the blow. They took their match against Brookland last Friday by a conclusive 44-16 score. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Piggott had established a 38-14 advantage.
Their wins bumped Piggott to 1-1 and Rector to 1-0. In their victory, Piggott relied heavily on senior Gunner Shaw, who rushed for 247 yards and 2 touchdowns; a key strategy for Rector will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
