Milford is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Armstrong a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Milford Bearcats will be playing at home against the Armstrong Trojans at 4:30 p.m.
Milford fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against St. Joseph-Ogden on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 12-11.
Gage Vogel made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aiden Frerichs, who got on base in three of his six plate appearances with one run.
Armstrong came out on top against Watseka on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Trojans had just enough and edged out the Warriors 8-7. The victory continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won three in a row.
Armstrong got a big performance out of Konner Asbury, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhys Showalter, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Armstrong always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Watseka only posted an OBP of .343.
Armstrong's win bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Milford, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-14.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Milford has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Armstrong struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Milford came out on top in a nail-biter against Armstrong in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Do the Bearcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
