Bishop Miege can attribute much of their success to Mary Grant, who went 9-for-15 to rack up 23 points, and Kirston Verhulst, who posted 16 points and eight boards. Verhulst's evening made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jayla McClinton, who put up four points and seven blocks.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Blue Valley Southwest). They took down Blue Valley 64-50 on Tuesday. Given the Timberwolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Tigers are ranked 187th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Blue Valley Southwest's win came from a few key players Bishop Miege will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Mia Hansen, who went 6-for-12 en route to 19 points and five rebounds. Those 19 points gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Unruh, who went 8-for-14 on her way to 16 points.
Blue Valley Southwest has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points over those games. As for Bishop Miege, their win bumped their record up to 10-4.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Bishop Miege has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.5 boards per game. However, it's not like Blue Valley Southwest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 25 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Everything came up roses for Bishop Miege against Blue Valley Southwest in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the team secured a 62-35 victory. In that matchup, Bishop Miege amassed a halftime lead of 39-14, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
