JOHNSTON, S.C. - the Rebels scored 28 points in the second quarter to secure a big 35-6 victory over
Darlington (S.C.) on Saturday.
Strom Thurmond scored on a
Chad Gilchrist touchdown run, a defensive touchdown, a touchdown run by
Trevonte Watkins and a
Jauveer Hammond touchdown pass to
Tyree Stidem in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Gilchrist in the second quarter, ST was up 28-0 at the half.
With the win the Johnston school extended its winning streak to six games. Strom Thurmond defeated Midland Valley 34-27 last week.
Strom Thurmond's standout player in the win was Stidem. The junior quarterback caught one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
Darlington's only touchdown came on a 1-yard run by
Shakeem Thomas in the fourth quarter.
Coming into the game Strom Thurmond had allowed 18.5 points per game this year. The defense really stepped up, holding the Falcons well below their season average of 23.9 points scored per game.
The loss was the third in a row for Darlington.
