Video: Highlights of Allen's Seth GreenAllen (Texas) nearly saw its quest for a fourth straight state championship, and a 54-game winning streak, come to an end in the second round of the Class 6A-1 state football playoffs as it held off
DeSoto (Texas), 41-40, on Friday.
DeSoto (6-6) rallied for two touchdowns in the final eight minutes after Allen had staked a 41-27 lead. However a missed extra point after the second touchdown left DeSoto one-point short of tying the game.
Allen (12-0) advances to play Martin (Arlington, Texas) in the third round with a 55-game win streak in tact. The Eagles have the second-longest active 11-man winning streak in the nation.
Allen held the lead throughout the first half and built a 24-14 lead by halftime. But DeSoto scored 10 unanswered points to tie the game at 24-24 on a 23-yard run by
Tristen Wallace midway through the fourth quarter.
The two teams traded field goals and that left the score knotted at 27-27. Allen broke through for a pair of touchdowns, however, to build a 41-27 advantage.
Seth Green had a 67-yard touchdown run and followed up that play with a 44-yard touchdown pass to
Camden Harrison.
DeSoto rallied on a 75-yard pass from Wallace to
Laviska Shenault Jr. that cut the lead to 41-34. Wallace added a 35-yard touchdown pass to
K.D. Nixon with 4:15 remaining, but the kick failed.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Wallace finished 8 of 25 for 168 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 161 yards and two scores.
Mitchell Jonke threw for 180 yards (15 of 23) with one touchdown while Green ran for 81 yards and a score.
