Elyria is 9-1 against Midview since January of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pioneers will host the Middies at 7:00 p.m. Elyria knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Midview likes a good challenge.
Elyria is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They walked away with a 90-77 victory over Steele on Tuesday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since February 10, 2023, but that streak is no more.
Elyria got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Rondell Grimmett out in front who shot 75% from the field en route to 25 points and four steals. Thanks to that strong game, Grimmett now owns an excellent 41.8% three-point shooting accuracy. Another player making a difference was Jermiah Daniels, who went 10-for-16 on his way to 21 points along with six assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Midview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were beaten by Avon 80-48. While losing is never fun, the Middies can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 663rd, while the Eagles are ranked 130th).
Elyria will need to focus on slowing down Luke Jockel, one of several Midview players who made an impact when they last played. He shot 63% from the field to rack up 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavier Young, who posted 11 points.
Elyria's victory bumped their record up to 13-5. As for Midview, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.
Keep an eye on the arc in Friday's contest: Elyria has been dynamite from deep this season, having nailed 37.8% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Midview, though, as they've only made 25.4% of their three-pointers this season. Given Elyria's sizable advantage in that area, the Middies will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Elyria against Midview when the teams last played back in January, as the team secured a 75-45 win. Do the Pioneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Middies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
