Fort Collins has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 22 points or more this season.
Leading Fort Collins to victory were Avery Alcaraz and Claire Wagstaff. Alcaraz scored 20 points along with five rebounds, while Wagstaff scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. That's the first time this season that Wagstaff grabbed two or more steals. Rhya Cano was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Grand Junction Central's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Krystyna Manzanarez, who scored 13 points along with six steals and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Brynn Wagner, who scored 17 points.
Grand Junction Central struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fort Collins pulled down 23 offensive rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Fort Collins and bumps their season record up to 6-2. As for Grand Junction Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.
Fort Collins' homestand continues as they prepare to take on Erie at 6:30 p.m. on January 9th. Erie is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.3 points per game. Grand Junction Central on the road again on Friday and play against Douglas County at 12:00 p.m. on January 5th. Hopefully Douglas County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Thursday.
