Cambria Heights dropped down to 9-2 on Friday, ending the team's six-game streak of wins. They fell 29-22 to the Marion Center Stingers. While the Highlanders didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Stingers 7-0 in the first quarter.
Several Highlanders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nolan Clawson, who rushed for 62 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 34 receiving yards and one score. Cambria Heights also got help from Brayden DeArmitt, who showed off his sure hands for 92 receiving yards.
Don't try to pin the team's loss on the defense: they kept the trenches locked down and allowed a mere 1.6 yards per carry. While one picked up at least six total tackles, Clawson stood above the rest. He rushed for 62 yards and one TD, and also picked up 34 receiving yards and one touchdown. Cambria Heights' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 3.9.
Cambria Heights' defense didn't let Camden Rising, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. Bryce Lewis was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself.
As for Marion Center, they pushed their record up to 10-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 38.0 points over those games.
Marion Center's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Rising, who threw for 251 yards and three TDs while completing 86.4% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. The dominant performance also gave Rising a new career-high in passer rating (161.2). Alec Brudnock was Rising's top target, picking up 157 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Cambria Heights does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Marion Center, they will venture away from home to take on Bishop McCort at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Stingers will need to watch out since the Crushers have now posted at least 31 points in their last nine contests.
