Winslow extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 26 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-16. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Waterville Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-4 back in May.
Benjamin Thomas was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Mike Loubier made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.
As for Waterville, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Winslow since June 1, 2022.
Like Winslow, Waterville also got a great game from a two-way player: Derek Couture. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Couture was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Sean Walsh was excellent, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Jones, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.
As of now, neither Winslow nor Waterville have any future games scheduled.
