After flying high against the Ridgway Demons last Saturday, the Mancos Bluejays came back down to earth. Mancos took a hard 50-36 fall against the Bulldogs on Tuesday. Mancos has not had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Mancos' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Teya Yeomans, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds, and Quincy Montoya who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists. Montoya hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games.
Dove Creek got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kylie Gatlin out in front who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Gatlin has scored at least a third of Dove Creek's points. Ralynn Hickman was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Mancos' loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Dove Creek, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-2.
Mancos will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Nucla is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games. As for Dove Creek, they will head out on the road to face off against the Bobcats at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
