Baseball Recap: Indian Springs Wins Going Away Against Pleasant Grove

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Indian Springs brought some dynamite into their most recent matchup. They were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Pleasant Grove Spartans on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Student, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Gus Whatley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Indian Springs is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 5-8 otherwise. Whatley was also solid in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eason Zheng, who scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February. Dylan Heald was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Indian Springs hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pleasant Grove struck out seven times.

Indian Springs moved to 7-8-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Pleasant Grove, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.

Indian Springs will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Spartans: the pair will be back at it again later today.
