The Ellicott Thunderhawks were the 40-19 winner over the Salida Spartans when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Ellicott's rough 46-21 defeat to Salida on Tuesday might stick with them for a while. Ellicott was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-5.
Salida found their leader in underclassman Braeden Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Johnson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Juliana Anch was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Ellicott still hasn't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 15.0 points per game. As for Salida, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Ellicott will be playing at home against Colorado Springs Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Salida, they will head out on the road to face off against Centauri at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Centauri focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Saturday.
