Basketball Recap: Gunnison Beats Grand Valley for Their Third Straight Victory

While Gunnison didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Grand Valley Cardinals by a score of 42-29 on Saturday. The win was familiar territory for the Cowboys who have now won three contests in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gunnison to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kylee McDougal, who posted 16 points in addition to five assists and four steals. That's the most points McDougal has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Sienna Gomez, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards.

Grand Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Pittman, who had six points in addition to eight boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Brynli Dowd, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

Gunnison's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Grand Valley, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gunnison will head out to take on Centauri at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Grand Valley, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Moffat County at 2:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
