The Segerstrom Jaguars were the 50-48 winner over the Artesia Pioneers when they last played one another back in February of 2018, but their luck changed this time around. Segerstrom was outmatched by Artesia at home and fell 57-29.
Artesia had a senior duo take command as Joshua Martinez scored 20 points and Zion Staples dropped a double-double on 10 points and 15 rebounds. The game was Staples' eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Aaron Nicolas, who scored 9 points.
Segerstrom's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Artesia, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Segerstrom will challenge Santiago at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Artesia, they will head out on the road to face off against Santa Fe at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
