DeKalb is 1-9 against Neuqua Valley since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Barbs will host the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. DeKalb is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Naperville Central hit DeKalb with a six-run sixth inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Barbs took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Redhawks.
Madison Hallaron made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayla Gould, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Neuqua Valley suffered their closest loss since April 27, 2024 on Saturday. They fell just short of South Elgin by a score of 5-3. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Neuqua Valley also got a good showing from Ava Drehs, who tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Drehs has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Neuqua Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tegan Spellerberg, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases. Another was Ashley Pape, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Neuqua Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 5-8. As for DeKalb, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 8-3.
Neuqua Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: DeKalb hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .358. It's a different story for Neuqua Valley, though, as they've only averaged .241. Will they be able to contain DeKalb's hitters?
