Two dominant signal callers in Cam Renfro and Khylan Davis are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Manvel Mavericks will take on the Fort Bend Hightower Hurricanes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Manvel knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Fort Bend Hightower likes a good challenge.
On Friday, Manvel was able to grind out a solid victory over Dobie, taking the game 31-18.
Eric Mosley III had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 112 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Manvel was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 187 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after only six points in their last matchup, Fort Bend Hightower made sure to put some points up on the board against Fort Bend Elkins on Thursday. The Hurricanes claimed a resounding 60-14 win over the Knights. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Manvel better keep an eye on Cori Robertson. He was instrumental in Fort Bend Hightower's win, picking up 94 receiving yards and one TD, while also rushing for 85 yards and one score on only five carries. Kentrell Mosley did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 86 receiving yards.
Fort Bend Hightower didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Peyton Kirkpartick and Zion Newton. Kirkpartick got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Manvel's record now sits at 7-3. As for Fort Bend Hightower, their record is now an identical 7-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Manvel has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 249.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Fort Bend Hightower struggles in that department as they've been averaging 153.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Manvel beat Fort Bend Hightower 23-15 in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hurricanes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
